Vickie deVos Launches iMVR at Annual Conference

Our own Vickie deVos of Fleet-Tax Services has launched a new venture in addition to her current company called iMVR.  The new company offers virtual reality training for the transportation industry allowing for more engaged training for drivers and safety trainers.  You can learn more about iMVR on their website at www.imvr.ca and you can learn more about the training through the video below. DriverCheck Presents on Cannabis in the Workplace

DriverCheck’s Chris Wilkinson presented on drugs and alcohol in the workplace and important information for the safety of with upcoming legalization of Cannabis on October 17th. Hamilton Fleet Safety Council Chapter Receives Certificate for Special Olympic Support

The Hamilton Fleet Safety Council  supports causes close to their heart and one of those causes is the Special Olympics. With many of the members of the Hamilton Chapter they chose the Truck Convoy for Special Olympics as this years charity by sponsoring a silver level sponsorship. Current HFSC Executive Board stays in place for 2018-2019 Season.

The Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council held their annual elections yesterday at their June meeting and the Executive Board will remain the same for the 2018-2019 season. The Executive Board remains as Charlie Shields as Chairperson, Jim Campbell as past Chairperson, Vickie deVos as Vice Chairperson, and Glen Harvey as Treasurer. All other positions have been appointed and approved as per the Executive Team.

Leanne Quail talks Smart Start at May 2018 HFSC Meeting

Comments included “One of the best presentations ever!” and “Finally a new approach to old school techniques” as Leanne Quail of Paul Quail Transport talked about her new and fresh strategy for bringing on new drivers to her fleet. She offered techniques and solutions to help her bring new drivers on in a comfortable way using programs already in place. The meeting even went long due to the engaged audience. Other topics discussed at the meeting included driver medical forms, ELD compliance, Regulations in different jurisdictions, CRA rules for owner operators, and cargo theft.

Long Time Member John Cleary Passes Away March 2018

John Cleary was a respected and long time member of the Fleet Safety Council and unfortunately passed away on March 3, 2018. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of John.

CLEARY, John G. June 23, 1940 – March 3, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband and best friend of Yvonne (Mayers). Cherished father of Jennifer (Chris) and Jillian (Roman). He will be missed by his grandsons Andrew, Nathan, Adam and Alex. He leaves behind a loving brother Mike (Judy), mother-in-law Val Mayers, brother-in-law of Keith (Val) and Ross (Chris) and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. J. Pinthus, Dr. G. Fraser and ICU team at Juravinski. Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Salvation Army Meadowlands, 187 Stone Church Rd. W., Ancaster, L9K 0A3 on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 12 noon. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

Study of Truck Parking and Rest Areas in Southern Ontario

A study by SPR Associates, in collaboration with organizations representing trucking companies,
drivers and owner-operators, to provide advice to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation

Ontario Committee – Altered Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) Certificates

At the November 13, 2017 Ontario Committee a member raised concern regarding the fact they have observed increased in incidents of altered Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) certificates in application for commercial automobile insurance.

IBC has discussed this with Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) staff, who are willing to review industry concerns. MTO would like members to provide examples of altered CVOR certificates, along with details as to how they discovered the document was altered.
