Nominate a Driver or Safety Person of the Year for 2018

As we come into the month of April it becomes an important month for those wanting to recognize team members and peers in the industry. Nominations close April 30th for the Hamilton Chapter.

Every year the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council recognize a Driver of the Year who is performing above and beyond to be safe and give back to their communities. Last years recipient was Mike Lotakow of Verpeeten Transport who had an amazing career as a professional driver. Click here to find out how to nominate your driver.

The Hamilton Niagara Chapter also awards a Risk Safety Professional of the Year. This is someone who is at the forefront of the industry in promoting safety and leadership, is dedicated to their chapter, and gives back to the community. Last year the recipient was Sheila Land who has been an instrumental part of Hamilton Chapter for many years. If you know someone who is going above and beyond the call of duty in the industry please nominate them. You can find out the criteria through clicking this link.

Hamilton Fleet Safety Council shows proud support at 26th Annual Conference

The Hamilton Niagara  Chapter of the Fleet Safety Council showed Fleet Safety Council 26th Conferenceup in strong numbers at the 26th annual conference. Not only were there many members in attendance but many were also involved in presenting and sponsoring the conference. Member Bruce Outridge offered a workshop on creating content for safety programs and Jodi Burness was involved on a legal panel to round out the afternoon sessions. many of the sponsors such as The Guarantee Insurance Company, Ontario Truck Driving School, Fleet-Tax Services, Old Republic Insurance, CPC Logistics, and DriverCheck all were sponsors of the conference. Mike Lotakow and Sheila Land who were the safety award winners were also in attendance.

Congratulations to the Hamilton members for showing up in strong numbers and the Fleet Safety Council for putting on another good conference. make sure you join us for the 27th annual conference next year.

A look into the life of Driver of the Year Mike Lotakow

Mike Lotakow is awarded Safe Driver of the Year 2017

The Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council awarded the Safe driver of the Year award also known as the Rick Grammick Award to Mike Lotakow of Verspeeten Transport for his immaculate driving record, compassion for his fellow man, and leadership in being a true professional driver. Mike works under Rick Brown who is the Safety Supervisor for Verspeeten.  Mike was in attendance with family members to receive the award and honoured for his professionalism. Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Announces Safety Person and Safety Driver of the Year

It was announced at the June Meeting the Safety Person and Safe Driver of the Year for the 2017-2018 season. We would like to congratulate all nominees for being nominated and realize that to be in the running shows your dedication to the industry.

Safety Person of the Year

The Safety Person of the Year has been award to Sheila Land of Sheila LandHilfield Strathallan Bus Lines. Sheila is the Transportation Supervisor and will be presented the award at the September Chapter Meeting and recognized at the annual conference in October for the Fleet Safety Council. Congratulations to Sheila Land.

Safe Driver of the Year

The Safe Driver of the Year was awarded to Mike Lotakow of Mike LotakowVerpeeten Cartage Ltd. in Ingersoll, Ontario.  Mike will be presented the award at the September Chapter Meeting and recognized at the annual conference in October for the Fleet Safety Council.  Congratulations to Mike for a job well done!

Awards Winners Honoured at Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Meeting

The Driver of the Year and Safety Person of the Year awards were awarded yesterday at the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Meeting. Congratulations to Nick Nicholson who won Safety Person of the Year and Randy Packham of Huron Services Group  who won Driver of the Year. Both were well deserved in their winnings and were awarded trophies and a jacket in recognition of their accomplishments.

Randy Packham of Huron Services Group assigned to the John Deere Fleet Wins Driver of the Year Award

Randy Packham of the Huron Services Group has won the Driver of fleetsafetycouncilthe year Award for the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council for 2016. Randy will be recognized in September at both the regular Chapter meeting and the upcoming Safety Conference.

Randy Packham is employed by Huron Services Group part of the CPC Logistics Group of Companies and is assigned as a driver to the John Deere Fleet. He was awarded Driver of the Year for his heroic efforts and professionalism as a driver.

Randy has logged over 2,000,000 miles accident free and helped to shield motorists in a giant crash on January 9, 2015 involving over 193 vehicles, seventy-three of those were semi trucks and 119 cars that lasted two days in cleaning up. Although Randy was in the middle of the crash, he managed to stop his vehicle without incident and drove it away from the crash scene.

Randy has been recognized by his own company as Driver of the Year and also by the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council in Ontario for his heroic efforts.

It is that time of year to get your information together and choose the best driver in your fleet.  The last one nominated was in 2011 by G. Zavitz Ltd.  Check out the Driver of the Year Page for criteria on nominating your drivers.

Rick Grammick Award Nomination Form

The Driver of the Year Award for 2011 was awarded to Herbert Peters who is currently driving for G.Zavitz Ltd.in Niagara Falls Ontario. Herb has shown outstanding abilities as a professional driver and upstanding person and was chosen by the Hamilton Niagara Chapter as this years recipient. Herb was presented with a Fleet Safety Council Jacket and the Rick Gramick Memorial Award Trophy at the September 2011 meeting for the Hamilton Niagara Chapter. Nick Nicholson read the many accolades and extremely impressive biography about Herb while presenting the award.

Herb was honoured again in October 2011 at the annual safety conference in London, Ontario .

Congratulations to Herb for a job well done!
