Educational Presentations at HFSC 2018 Spring Seminar

The Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council held their Annual Spring Spring Seminar 2018Seminar last month to a full house. The seminar included regulatory updates for the transportation industry and included four panelists hosted by moderator Mike Derry of The Guarantee Insurance Company.

The panelists included Nick Korakus of the Ministry of Transportation, Jodi Burness of Burness Paralegal Services, Rick Gladman of Old Republic Insurance, and Chris Wilkinson of DriverCheck.

Nick Korakus was asked about Electronic Logging Devices and parking issues for truck drivers.

Rick Gladman was asked about new driver in the workplace and what types of regulatory items should be put in place.

Jodi Burness was asked what should be included in driver files should the company be called into court to defend a charge.

Chris Wilkinson was asked about drugs and alcohol policies in the workplace and how to handle them.

Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Talks Regulatory Updates to Full House

On Thursday March 29th the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council hfsc-spring-seminar-bannerheld their annual Spring Seminar on Regulatory Updates for the transportation industry.  It was a full house as topics included distracted driving, drugs and alcohol policies,  professional drivers, legal issues, and much more.

Spring Seminar 2018The morning kicked off with a hot breakfast and opening remarks from Michell Roberts of IHSA. Mike Derry of The Guarantee lead the panel consisting of Nick Korakas of the MTO, Rick Gladman of Old Republic Insurance, Chris Wilkinson of DriverCheck, and Jodi Burness of Burness Paralegal Services. Thank you to all the presenters for sharing their expertise.

Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Talks Entry Level Driver Programs at February Meeting

The room was packed for the February meeting for the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council with many new members in attendance. The transportation is in a state of change again in 2018 and everyone is looking for information to take their teams to the forefront.

Mike Kroetsch of Transportation Safety and Compliance Solutions gave a presentation about Entry Level Drivers and the importance of having a training / mentoring program in place to bring on new drivers in a comfortable and safe way.  The company is based in Kitchener Ontario and helps carriers design programs to help on-board drivers in an effective way. Smart Trucker Seminar-September 12th-Grimsby Ontario

Frontline Commercial Vehicle Solutions talks inspections and audits at Hamilton Chapter.

Bud Kneller and Alex Buyega of Frontline Commercial Vehicle Solutions teamed up to present on how to  have clean inspections and what inspectors look for when trucks get selected for inspection at the truck scales.

The second part of the presentation included information on how to prepare for an MTO audit and have the proper documentation to improve your safety rating.

Frontline Commercial Vehicle Solutions Presents at May Hamilton FSC Meeting

Frontline Commerical Vehicle Solutions will be our guest presenters at the next Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Meeting. Founded by Alex Bugeya and Bud Kneller both ex-MTO officers that have now started their own safety business for carriers in the trucking industry.

The Presentation

We will covering information about MTO inspections and audits. Bud Kneller will be presenting “A drivers guide to roadside inspection” and Alex Bugeya will be presenting “a managers guide to the compliance audit”

About the Presenters

Alex brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his over 13 years with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) including:
Head of Enforcement Training and Development
Senior Facility Audit Administrator
MTO Auditor
Transportation Enforcement Officer

During his time with the MTO, Alex was certified as a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspector, having performed thousands of Level I to V inspections on trucks and buses. Alex was also one of the first Level VI certified inspectors in Canada, authorizing him to perform inspections on select radiological shipments.

Bud’s experience and knowledge comes from his over 18 years with the MTO while holding the following positions:
Assistant to Head of Enforcement Training and Development
Transportation Enforcement Officer

Bud was certified as a CVSA inspector in 1998 and since has conducted thousands of Level I to V inspections on trucks and buses. In addition, Bud has experience with the MTO Facility Audit Program.

In 2014, Bud was the winner of the Ontario National Safety Code Challenge and represented Ontario in Pittsburgh at the North American Inspectors Championship.

April Safety Meeting Hosts Insurance Panel

The April 2017 meeting for the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council was chalk full of great information on insurance issues for the transportation industry. The panel consisted of Mike Derry of The Guarantee Insurance Company, Rick Gladman from Old Republic Insurance and Rick Gellar from Marsh Insurance.

The information was focused around insurance rates and how your drivers can affect premiums. Topics included pricing of insurance, insurance coverage and claims, and insurance from a driver standpoint.

Great information was presented to the group on a very important subject.

Shaw Tracking Present EOBR / ELD Update at Hamilton Chapter Meeting

Sanchia Duran of Shaw Tracking gave a very informative update on the changes coming to the transportation industry in the way Electronic Logging Devices and On-board Recorders.  Sanchia mentioned that many carriers that travel to the United States may be waiting too long to install the mandatory systems leaving themselves in a vulnerable position in December 2017.  you can learn more about the systems at http://www.shawtracking.ca

Chris Wilkinson Talks Substance Abuse at Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Meeting

Chris Wilkinson of Millenium Compliance Services offered a presentation at the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Meeting yesterday on substance abuse and how to recognize it in the workplace. The presentation included a training session on creating a substance abuse plan and having the correct people in place to investigate and take corrective action when it is recognized there is an issue with coworkers and colleagues. Bob Hopkins talks NEER at Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Meeting

Bob Hopkins of Sega Consulting gave an interesting presentation on how to save money on insurance claims and bringing workers back to work in a timely manner saving your company thousands of dollars. This presentation was very interesting and showed how companies may be losing big money by not having proper policies in place.
