The 2021 Spring Seminar by the Hamilton Niagara Fleet Safety Council Chapter will be a virtual event this year due to the pandemic.

The Compliance Coup

Test Your Compliance Program in the Compliance Coup

Many transport companies feel that they are being compliant because they keep documents in a drawer or talk safety at a meeting. If someone were to challenge an employee at your company would your compliance documents stand up to the test?

The 2021 Spring seminar will follow a similar format to that of the famous Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den television shows. Instead of pitching business ideas to a panel of experts compliance information will be presented to see how well it would hold up if required to get a company out of a safety violation. If it doesn’t hold up they might end up in THE COMPLIANCE COUP!

Event Date: Thursday March 25th, 2021-9:00AM-12:00PM

Profiles of your Compliance Dragons

Sandy Baigent

Sandy Baigent has been working in the transportation industry for over 20 years.  She began as a paralegal defending drivers and transportation companies in Provincial offences court further to on-road or audit related charges.  It was through attempting to defend against  these  types of charges that it became very apparent to Sandy that a large number of the  companies did  not have the necessary documentation to provide a solid defence.

Sandy enjoyed the more proactive approach to Safety and Compliance and began working in a consultant capacity more than 20 years ago.  She obtained her Certified Risk Manager designation, and over the last 20 years she and her company, E & B Safety Consulting has successfully assisted, prepared for and /or represented her clients during insurance reviews or in MTO sanctions such as Facility Audits  or Show Cause hearings called by the MTO.

While she still actively works with larger fleets, she enjoys working with the smaller “non-typical” businesses that while may not move freight, rely on commercial motor vehicles to move their product or provide their service.

Alex Bugeya

Alex is a part owner and President of the consulting firm Frontline Commercial Vehicle Solutions.  Prior to Frontline, Alex spent 13+ years with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation including time spent as an enforcement officer, facility auditor, and provincial trainer.  Alex concluded his career at MTO in the St. Catharines Carrier Enforcement Program Office where he held roles overseeing the provincial auditing program as well as the provincial enforcement training program.  Alex’s experience includes time spent as a certified Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) instructor as well as a provincial trainer for many courses including hours of service and moving violations.  Since leaving the MTO, Alex has maintained his involvement with CVSA where he is the Secretary for the North American Inspector’s Championship committee.

Nick Gionfriddo

Nick Gionfriddo has been working in the transportation industry for 25 years. He began as a driver under the coaching of his father who retired after 48 years as a long-haul driver. Through the years Nick continued to educate himself in all the divisions of transportation. From Owning his own LTL Company to Fuel, Aggregate, Construction and Floating machinery, this giving him an easy collective mileage of over 2 million miles.

Over the years Nick has enjoyed being able to work with some of the best in the industry opening his eyes up to the areas of concern like lack of education on a driver’s level.
6 years ago, Nick had the opportunity to learn about risk management and driver training. This taught him how to review and help re educate companies and drivers about the concerns in the transportation industry. Nick has successfully assisted, prepared for and /or represented his clients during insurance reviews over the past 6 years.

While he still actively works with various fleets, he enjoys having the opportunity to meet new clients and get into the basics of training and safety. Nick on LinkedIn
